How To Build A Bike
|
How to build a bike? And why build one? These questions have plagued a lot of people. Here’s why you should build a bike. You can have immense fun making one, and the rewards are excellent. Instead of getting a pre-packaged bike, you can now get the parts and make your very own road monster. That would definitely be a lot of fun to race on. If you are regular with riding a bike, then that would mean added bonus to your ability as a creative craftsman. So, you need a few items which would be required to build a bike. Frame, Headset, Fork, Rear derailleur, and an optional Front derailleur, Brake Levers, Shifters, Headset Cable guide, Brakes, 2 x derailleur cables, 2 x brake, brakes, 4' derailleur housing, 4' brake housing, cranks, bottom brackets, pedals, cassette, chain seat post seat, wheels, seat clamp, brake hangers front / rear. Gather these items together and also get some tools that would come in handy. Grease chain tool, pedal wrench, allen keys, wire cutters, nuts/bolts (or headset press), hacksaw, adjustable wrench, bottom bracket tool, and a heavy duty screw driver are the products you need. Start with the seat post. Put the post in after the seat clamp and grease it well. Stick it and properly put in the seat. Now firmly bolt everything together. Then insert the headset and firmly clasp it to the frame with a large bolt. You should use plenty of washers, nuts and bolts to do this. Then mark your space for the fork and use plenty of spacers. Now take your fork and cut it about 3mm below your mark with a hack saw. Drive in a single nut, and use a hammer to push it right in. Then push in your bottom bracket and it up. Remember to reverse thread the drive side, and thread it in using your hand at first, and then a tool to thread it all in. Use the cranks now and tighten them. Then put the pedals in and grease generously the threads. Now at the bottom of the bottom bracket, put in a cable guide. Now put in the front and rear derailleur and tighten them. Once you have set in the cable guide then fix up the brakes and brake levers, and put them right in and secure them proper. Now it is time to insert the chain. Using the biggest gear, thread in the chain and make sure the chain is sufficient to spin easily. Now cut the cable housing because you need that done for your brakes and your shifters. Put in the rear cable, and do a bit of fine tuning to set things up and run the cables to the brakes and derailleur. Now you have a nearly made bike. Check if the headset is set right. If it has, then you can go ahead and test it, and you would see that you have a well-running bike at your disposal . |
